- Free Trial
- This clause is only relevant if you’re taking a free trial of a Plug-In. If you wish to:
- download a free Plug-In, please go to section 3; or
- purchase a Plug-In, please go to section 4.
- In order to get a free trial of your chosen Plug-In, you’ll be required (when prompted) to:
- create an account (Blackstar Account) by completing the required contact information fields;
- confirm that your computer/ other electronic device onto which the Plug-In is to be downloaded meets the minimum system requirements here (OS Requirements);
- download and install the free Plug-In, which will include agreeing to the Plug-In’s End User Licence Agreement (EULA), which can be found here (if you don’t agree to the EULA, the download of the Plug-In will automatically be cancelled); and
- download and install the iLok Licence Manager
- On completing the above, you will be given a 14 day licence, via your Blackstar Account, to use your chosen Plug-In.
- Your free trial of the Plug-In will last for 14 days, commencing at the point at which you activate the Plug-In. Once the 14 day trial period is over, the Plug-In will be automatically disabled.
- If you’d like to continue to use the Plug-In, you’ll be required to purchase a licence-key to re-activate the Plug-In.
- The provision of free trials is entirely at our discretion. We may at any time stop offering free trials without notice.
- This clause is only relevant if you’re taking a free trial of a Plug-In. If you wish to:
- Free Plug-Ins
- This clause is only relevant if you’re downloading one of our free Plug-Ins. If you’re purchasing a Plug-In, please go to section 4.
- To download a free Plug-In, follow the onscreen prompts on our website.
- In order to download and use your chosen free Plug-In, you’ll be required (when prompted) to complete the steps as set out in section 2.
- On completing the above, you’ll be given a licence, via your Blackstar Account, to use your chosen free Plug-In.
- The provision of free Plug-Ins is entirely at our discretion. We may at any time stop offering free Plug-Ins without notice.
- Purchasing a Plug-in
- To purchase a Plug-In, follow the onscreen prompts on our website.
- In order to use your chosen Plug-In, you’ll be required (when prompted) to:
- click “BUY NOW” and provide us with your payment details; and
- complete the steps as set out in section 2, above (note that if you’ve previously had a free-trial, you won’t need to download and install the Plug-In or iLok, provided they’re still installed on your computer).
- On clicking “BUY NOW”, you’ll have placed an order with us to purchase the Plug-In. We’ll accept your order once we’ve received payment from you and you will, at that point, be provided with an activation code through your Blackstar Account.
- Which of the following sections of these terms apply to me
- If you’ve purchased a Plug-In (section 4), all of the following sections will apply to you.
- If you’ve taken a free trial or downloaded a free Plug-In, only sections 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 of the following terms apply to you.
- If You are unable to activate the Plug-In.
- If, having purchased a Plug-In you’re unable to activate it because of an event outside our control (for example, issues with third-party servers or software), we’ll contact you to let you know and let you know what we are doing to reduce the delay. Provided we do this, you won’t be due any compensation for the delay.
- However, if any delay is likely to be for more than 14 days you may contact our customer service team, using the contact details which can be found here to cancel your purchase and receive a full refund of the purchase price paid (if any).
- Cancelling your purchase
- Sometimes, when you buy something online, you may have a right to cancel your purchase within the so-called “cooling-off period” (usually 14 days).
- When you purchase the Plug-In, you’ll have 14 days from the day on which we make the Plug-In available to you to download. However, you will lose this right once you’ve activated the Plug-In.
- If you want to change your mind, contact our customer service team, using the contact details which can be found here. On cancellation, the activation of the Plug-In will no longer be available and we’ll refund you in accordance with section 9.
- Updates
- We’ll periodically make updates to the Plug-In available for download. These will be provided free of charge and available for download from the website. We recommend that you regularly check our website for any updates.
- Refunds
- If you cancel your purchase (either under section 2 or section 7.3), we’ll refund you the price you paid as soon as we can, but in any event within 14 days. Refunds will be made by the method you used for payment.
- What if you think there is something wrong with the Plug-in?
- If you think there’s something wrong the Plug-In, you must let us know by contacting our customer service team, using the contact details which can be found here.
- We honour our legal duty to provide you with products that are as described to you on our website and that meet all the requirements imposed by law.
- We’ll have no responsibility for the Plug-In not being as described to you on our website, or for it failing to meet all the requirements imposed by law if you have:
- altered or modified the Plug-In;
- used the Plug-In other than in accordance with these terms or any other instructions provided by us to you; or
- used the Plug-In on a system that doesn’t meet the OS Requirements.
- We can make changes to the Plug-In and these Terms
- We can always change the Plug-In to:
- reflect changes in relevant laws and regulatory requirements;
- update it, provided that the digital content always matches the description of it that we provided to you before you bought it (and we might ask you to install these updates).
- We can always change the Plug-In to:
- Our Responsibility for loss or damage caused by us or the Plug-In
- We’re responsible for losses you suffer caused by us breaking this contract unless the loss is:
- unexpected, i.e., it wasn’t obvious that it would happen (so, in the law, the loss was unforeseeable);
- caused by a delaying event outside our control, provided we took the steps set out in the section 2;
- avoidable, e., something you could have avoided by taking reasonable action (for example, damage to your own digital content or device, which was caused by the Plug-In and which you could have avoided by following our advice to apply a free update or by correctly following the installation instructions or having the minimum OS Requirements advised by us); or
- a business loss, i.e., it relates to your use of the Plug-In for the purposes of your trade, business, craft or profession.
- We’re responsible for losses you suffer caused by us breaking this contract unless the loss is:

- How we use any personal data you give us is set out in our Privacy Notice, which can be found here.
- disputes
- If you have a problem with the Plug-In, or otherwise with how we have acted or behaved, you have a number of options:
- you can make a complaint to our customer service team, using the contact details which can be found here, who’ll do their best to resolve any problems you have with us or the Plug-In, or;
- take legal action (see clause 5).
- If you have a problem with the Plug-In, or otherwise with how we have acted or behaved, you have a number of options:
- General Terms
- We can transfer our contract with you, so that a different organisation is responsible for supplying and maintaining the Plug-In. We’ll tell you in writing if this happens and we’ll ensure that the transfer won’t affect your rights under the contract.
- This contract is between you and us. Nobody else can enforce it and neither of us will need to ask anybody else to sign-off on ending or changing it.
- If a court or other authority decides that some of these terms are unlawful, the rest will continue to apply.
- Just because we don’t enforce a term of this agreement immediately, it doesn’t mean that we can’t enforce that term later.
- These terms are governed by English law and wherever you live you can bring claims against us in the English courts. If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring claims against us in the courts of the country you live in. We can claim against you in the courts of the country you live in.
